U.S. Open badminton tournament

July 12, 2009 - Indonesia’s number one shuttler Taufik Hidayat won the US Open badminton championship after beating Hsueh Hsuan Yi from Taiwan 21-15, 21-16.  This should give Hidayat some confidence and momentum heading towards the World Championships in August.  It also gained him an impressive cheque for his efforts for $80,000 US.  After the match in Orange County California he said, " “Hopefully, this win will lead to a great result in the upcoming World Cup.”

It was also a successful tournament for Canadian shuttlers as Anna Rice won the gold medal against Mona Santoso from the US,  and the women’s doubles team of Huang Ruilin and Jiang Xuelian took the title against Chen Yang and Peng Yun from Greece.  In other action Tony Gunawa and Howard Barch from the US won the men’s doubles, and Hoard Back and Eva Lee won the mixed doubles.
