Sudirman Cup Badminton Tournament: Third day
May 12, 2009 - India is continuing to have an impressive showing at the tournament with a 5-0 shutout against the Ukraine today. They are now leading their group, with two wins in two matches after defeating Australia earlier. Men's doubles pair Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas, women's singles player Saina Nehwal and men's singles player Arvind Bhat had little trouble in winning their respective matches. India will now face Scotland tomorrow, who are coming off of a 5-0 victory over Scotland.
China defeated Japan 5-0 easily, and moved in to the semi-finals and one step closer to defending their title. Lin Dan said, ""I played better than I did on Sunday and it is good for me to face against Indonesia, I cherish this opportunity to play team matches. Being an Olympic champion is just history. I will fight four more years to defend my title."
In other tournament news Taiwan defeated France 4-1, Germany lost to Thailand 3-2, Scotland blanked Australia 5-0, Denmark lost to Korea 4-1, the USA beat Sweden 3-2, Bulgaria beat the Czech Republic 3-2 and Chinese Taipei beat France 4-1.
