Sudirman Cup Badminton Tournament: Sixth day

May 15, 2009 - Badminton fans at the 7,000 seat Guangzhou Gymnasium today saw: Germany beat the Netherlands 3-0, Chinese Taipei beat Singapore 3-1, Thailand beat Russia 3-0, France lose to Poland 3-0, Japan beat Hong Kong 3-1, and Denmark beat England  by 3-2.

All the anticipation is set for tomorrow though as China is set to do battle with Malaysia.  Malaysian team manager Datuk Maijol Mahab said, "The odds are against us. China of course will start as favoirites given their overall strength, but that doesn't mean we are giving up without a fight. We are in the semi-finals for the first time in the competition and it's natural we want to take it a step further."  He also went on to say how much they are hoping Lee Chong Wei will have a strong showing against Lin Dan, and that women's singles player Wong Mew Choo will have the same glory she had in China in two years ago, when she defeated Xie Xinfang in the China Masters finals.  Chinese head coach Li Yongbo said, "I must admit that we will face some difficult moments against Malaysia on Saturday and we need to be strong. Malaysia have always been traditionally very strong, especially in the men's singles and doubles. And in the past couple of years, their strength in the women's team have improved tremendously with the rise of Wong Mew Choo and the doubles pair of Chin Ee Hui and Wong Pei Tty. Malaysia will be worthy opponents."
