Results and News Open Badminton Korean Championships, Seoul Korea

Final Results: In a shocking upset in the men's final, Lee Chong Wei may have cost himself the tournament with several unforced errors. The veteran player from Denmark, Peter Gade Christensen looked in peak condition winning 21-18, 10-21, 21-17 in 53 minutes. Christensen earned $22,500 US while Chong Wei saw $9,600US. Christensen stated, "I'm glad that I am still at the top of the men's singles and it is good to beat Chong Wei after losing to him several times in the last few tournaments."Badminton

In men's doubles Denmark's Boe Mathias and Carsten Mogensen had a strong outing as they beat South Korea's own Jung Jae Sung and Lee Yong Dae 21-12, 24-22. This ended the Koreans bid for a fifth title in their last six tournaments.
Women's final: It was a good day for Denmark as Tine Rasmussen won the women's title beating France's Hongyan Pi 21-19, 21-19. This is Rasmussen's second title in two weeks, and also regained her the number one world ranking. (both pictured at right courtesy of badzine.com)  

The top seeded women's doubles team of Cheng Wen-hsing and Chien Yu-chin of Taiwan took out the second seeded pair from South Korea, Lee Hyojung and Lee Kungwon in straight sets 21-19, 21-8. Cheng and Chien took home $27,000 US for their efforts.

In mixed doubles, third-ranked Lee Yong-dae and Lee Hyo-jung of won the Korean title for the second year in a row. They easily handled the 10th-ranked team of Songphon Anugritayawon and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul of Thailand in straight sets 21-8 and 21-7. The Korean team can add this accomplishment to their Gold medal performance at the Beijing Olympics last summer.

-Denmark was the big story of the tournament walking away with three out of the five tournament's titles- men's singles, women's singles and men's doubles.

*The Super Series will now move to Birmingham, England for the All England Super Series starting on March 3, 2009.
 

The Scottish National Championships being held in Perth on January 30th to February 1st will have nearly 100 players from all over the country. There are already 58 men and 31 women players confirmed to participate. Leading the way from Glasgow is Commonwealth bronze medalist Susan Hughes, and men's singles title holder Craig Goddard of East Kilbride.
