Playing Badminton Singles

All the above rules apply when playing both singles and doubles; however there are two important exceptions. The first difference is the service area, the side lines are not used for serve boundaries, so the court is 1 meter narrower than in doubles. To make the service area slightly longer the baseline is used as the service area back line. So the serve can be performed from the back of the court.

The second important rule is, when serving in singles, each player can only have one serving turn, when the servers personal score is an even number including zero, he serves from the right service area, when his score is an uneven number he serves from the left service area. It is important to pay close attention to the score board and where to serve, serving from the wrong service area can be claimed as a fault from your opponent and you'll lose both the serve and point.
