Overhead shots in Badminton

Forehand overhead shot:
This shot is usually used in singles when you want to send the player to the back of the court and open up the front court a bit. When using the high volleying (defensive clear), it gives the player time to find center court. When its an attack clear, the opponent has a harder time to reach the back of the court. The general techniques used for overhead shots aver very similar. Its important to always hit the birdie in front of our body and as high as possible.

When preparing for a right overhead shot your body should be behind the birdie and your weight equally balanced on both feet. Before the swing the racket should be bent back behind the body. This is done by holding a loose grip on the handle. Keeping your eye on the birdie, your arm and shoulder begins swinging towards it, and your weight begins shifting forward. The object is to hit the birdie exactly above your head, stretching your arm and racket upward, its best if the birdie is hit as high up as possible. By now your weight is completely on your front foot and both your shoulders are parallel to the net. The racket follows through on the swing in the direction you want the birdie towards.
