Macau Open badminton tournament

 Thursday August 20, 2009 - Just one week after the World Championships, and most of the world's top ranked players will be taking to the court again at the Macau Open this week.  Some will be looking to continue their strong performances, and others will be looking to redeem themselves and erase the sting of defeat from their minds.
 
In Thursday's action today in women's singles Julianne Schenk of Germany and number three ranked Yihan Wang of China advanced to the next round.  Mi Zhou the world's number one ranked player was upset again,  following her disappointing world championship result, with a 21-16, 12-21, 21-15 loss to unseeded Ji Hyun Sung of Korea.
 
In men's singles Chetan Anand of India and number two ranked Jin Chen both advanced easily in two set victories.
 
Hanbin He and Yang (f) Yu of China advanced in the mixed doubles, while Kien Keat Koo and Boon Heong Tan of Malaysia advanced in the men's doubles.
