England regrets pulling out their team from Badminton World Championships

Monday August 24, 2009 - England has stated just one week after the World Championships ended, that they regret pulling their team out.  Badminton England chief executive Adrian Christy stated, "On behalf of everyone connected with Badminton England, I want to convey my apologies that the England team felt it necessary to withdraw from such an event and to reassure you that our decision was in no way a slight to the organizing committee or the people of India."  He went on to say that this isolated incident will have no future bearing on Britain travelling to India in the future, and that they look forward to visiting India for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

V.K. Verma, president of the Badminton Association of India (whom the apology was addressed to) responded by saying, England's badminton officials, "now understand that they had reacted without having full facts and were regretful." He also said, "this apology should repair the damage caused to India's reputation as a safe venue."
