Costs for badminton's Wolrd Championships continue climbing

July 19, 2009 - Costs for the World Championships in August in India are continuing to climb.  There is a hefty power bill, along with the daily costs of running the air conditioning.  On top of that there are the renovation costs of increasing the lighting capacity, plugging leaks in the roof at the main venue, and laying warm-up courts, etc.  The organizers do not receive any grants, even from the Indian government. "Despite a one-third cut in the budget, we have decided to meet the expense as a special gesture in view of the prestige involved in hosting the event,” said Ms. V. Radha. (from the sports authority of India).
