Badminton Serving Rules
1.) When a player serves, their racket must be below their waist, and the racket head below their hand. The server must also have both feet stationary and firmly planted on the ground.
2.) In singles play the players shall stand diagonally from each other in opposite service courts, and you may not touch any part of the boundary lines with your feet.
3.) In badminton serving rules, no player is allowed to delay the game when serving once each player is in the proper position. A fault will be committed if the umpire suspects wrong doing.
4.) The shuttle must make its way to the receiver's court in order for the serve to be deemed legal. A fault will be called if a player misses the shuttle on a serve attempt. A serve may hit the net as long as it continues over and lands in the opponents service area.
5.) In doubles badminton serving rules after the service is returned, during the rally play, the shuttle may be hit by any player of the serving side and any player of the receiving side alternately, from any position on that player’s side of the net, until the shuttle ceases to be in play.
6.) It is considered a fault if the shuttle does not land in the opposite service court.
7.) If both teams commit an error on the serve a 'let' is called and the serve is redone, by the same player.
8.) In doubles badminton either player of the winning side may serve first in the next game, and either player of the losing side may receive first in the next game. But no player shall serve or receive out of turn, or receive two consecutive services in the same game.
9.) In singles play the player that wins the first game shall serve first in the second game.
In badminton rules only the serving side is allowed to receive a point, unless in rally play where either side can earn a point. Rally point was introduced to add more excitement to the game, and lessen the time it took for a match to be played.
In a doubles badminton game the service rotation is as follows:
-Player A from team 1 serves from the right hand side of their court to the opposite side of the court to team 2.
-If team 1 wins the rally then he/she shall continue to serve, this time from the left hand side of the court across diagonally to team 2.
-Player A continues to serve alternating sides until he/she loses the point, at this time team 2 gets to serve.
-Whoever is on the right hand side of the court when team 2 wins the rally shall serve first.
-They continue to serve, alternating sides until they lose the rally, at this time the serve is given to their partner on team 2.
-When team 2 loses the rally again the serve is then given back to team 1, where the next player takes their turn serving, and then the whole process repeats itself.
