2009 Badminton World Championships: Semifinal Results

In men's singles it was Jin Chen (at right) prevailing over Taufik Hidayat 21-16, 21-6. Sony Dwi Kuncoro tried everything he could to take out the reigning champion, but Lin Dan proved to be too strong and won 21-14, 13-21, 21-15 in just over an hour. So no matter what happens tomorrow it is guaranteed that the men's champion will be a shuttler from China. Dan and Chen have split their last four matches, and Chen beat Dan at the Indonesian Final this year.
In women's singles semi-final action Xingfang Xie ended Hongyan Pi's tournament after a 21-18, 21-8 victory. Xie will now face number seven Lan Lu, after she upset number two Yihan Wang in a drawn out two set 21-18, 21-19 match.
In Women's doubles number eight knocked out number five as Yawen Zhang and Tingting Zhao won 24-22, 18-21, 21-8 over Jing Du and Yang (f) Yu. Shu Cheng and Yunlei Zhao won their match today against Jin Ma and Xiaoli Wang 21-16,21-12.

Men's doubles will see the Koreans Jae Sung Jung and Yong Dae Lee (at left), after they upset number two ranked Kien Keat Koo and Boon Heong Tan of Malaysia 16-21, 21-14, 22-20. Yun Cai and Haifeng Fu will also continue on in the tournament with their 18-21, 24-22, 21-15, 57 minute victory over the Indonesian pairing of Mohd Zakry Adul Latif and Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari.

They are having the tounament of their careers as they defeated number three ranked Bo Zheng and Jin Ma of China, and now the number one ranked Koreans Yong Dae Lee and Hyo Jung Lee. The Danes played smart and consistent downing their opponents 18-21, 21-9, 21-18.
